Faith beyond religion?

by Jennifer Haupt on July 24, 2009

For me, faith has little to do with religion. I grew up Jewish ⎯ I am Jewish ⎯ but I haven’t been in a temple for more than a decade. Faith isn’t something I look for in a religious institution but rather in the little moments of everyday life. This may sound goofy, but I find it amazing that the sun comes up every morning. Even more amazing that I go to sleep with the firm belief that the sun will rise again tomorrow.

My faith has everything to do with a belief in a higher power I call “God” as a shorthand for the power that makes us stronger than we think we are. Superman uses it to leap tall buildings in a single bound; some days I need it just to haul myself out of bed and go through the motions of being a mom, wife and reasonable productive member of society. How important is going to church or temple to your faith? How do you find faith in everyday life?

Faith is a strong belief in something, that something is bound to happen, and will always happen, come rain or sunshine,in my view.

Going to church or temple,I sometimes find it that it has nothing to do with my faith.I read the Bible while at home, and grasps God related materials, anywhere, any time, any place, and not necessarily in church. And God is my belief!
