Yelling is Good for Your Health

Go ahead and scream!

Go ahead and scream!

Sometimes, don’t you just wanna let loose and scream? Ancient Chinese wisdom says: Go for it! Check out this video from CCN about a group of friends who climb to the top of a hill each morning and give a shout out to the Universe to start their day.

Well, it’s good to know that when I “lost it” last week and started yelling at the universe (while I was alone in my house), I was actually doing myself a favor. :)

That’s good to know. I always feel like yelling and letting loose after a day of frustration. Now I know it’s good for me.

I always think of Charlie Brown throwing back his head and yelling, when I feel the rumble of frustration brewing.

Yelling? Hmmm… I always thought a good scream to the universe might be beneficial from time to time.

Pretty funny. Maybe I’ll try it:)

Jen, this is hilarious! I don’t think when I yell at my kids it’s good for anyone but I can imagine that some yelling in general is a healthy thing (as long as it’s not directed at anyone!)

Ha! Like Jennifer I’ve noticed that my children are fairly proficient yellers–thankfully, most of the time it’s out of happiness. Personally, I like a good laugh versus a yell to clear my head.

Who knew the things I do out of exasperation could actually help me!

Makes me think of Harold and Maude. Didn’t Maude do something similar?

Every morning? It seems counter-intuitivve — my stress builds up as the day goes along — but maybe a good morning yell would release any lingering “badness” and allow me to get a fresh start on my day.

Somehow, though, I don’t think my kids are going to relish the idea of me starting the day with a yell, even if it’s not directed at them!

The thing is, I don’t think a yell is always about releasing negative energy and frustration. I think it can be a show of positive energy–like when you’re biking and reach the top of the hill or during passionate sex (um, at least that’s how it is in the movies!!). Food for thought!
